The Supply of Long-term Care Services and a Registration Ratio of Nursing Homes
Yoo Jae-Eon

Abstract
This study examines the relationship between long-term care services in community and a registration ratio of nursing homes. Data for the present study were drawn from two sources to conduct Multi-level analysis. Census data of long-term care services of each community in 2013 were drawn from the Korean Statistical Information Service. In addition, the information of 4,839 nursing homes were drawn from the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database in December 2014. The main results of Multi-level analysis address that a registration ratio of nursing homes was positively related to the number of long-term care facilities per every 1,000 older adult whose long-term care grade was 1st to 3th (LISA). In contrast, a registration ratio of nursing homes was negatively associated with the supply of home-visit care centers. Characteristics of individual nursing home were also relevant to a registration ratio. In particular, a registration ratio was closely related to the maximum capacity of beds, the evaluation grade by NHIS, the city size, the day and night care service, and the short-term care service. Those results also suggested policy implications to maintain supply and demand balance of long-term care services by community.
